Ontime sponsors Met Police officers on a charity ride
Ontime’s Rescue and Recovery Division has sponsored a team of officers from the Metropolitan Police on a charity cycle ride from Land’s End to John o’Groats.
In its role as a main sponsor, Ontime provided support to ensure they had a comfortable place to rest and recuperate after each challenging leg of the journey. The company also supplied Ontime branded fit for purpose jackets that the team wore throughout the event.
The team of traffic officers from the Met Police completed the 1,000 mile cycle ride challenge in ten days. Averaging 100 miles a day, they completed the epic journey on Saturday 28th April, just in time to fully recover before the start of the Olympics.
During the route the team endured a variety of harsh weather conditions as well tough terrains which at one point saw the support vehicle being rescued by a friendly farmer because the ‘cycle friendly hill’ was too steep for the van to drive up!
Detective Superintendent John Hollands, who led the team, said: “Based on personal experience each team member selected a charity to support and we continue to actively support these charities now the event has finished. As one of our main sponsors I would like to thank Ontime’s Rescue and Recovery Division for all the help and support they have given us in making this gruelling challenge possible.”
The team is raising money for charities including Diabetes UK, St John’s Ambulance, the PSP Association and MPS Traffic Orphans. Mark Bevan, Business Development Manager for Ontime Rescue and Recovery said the company was delighted to support the event. “This sponsorship is an example of our on-going commitment to supporting good causes. It’s always rewarding to be involved in making a difference and pleasing for us to give something back to the community while continuing to deliver true value to our customers.”
For those wishing to donate, the fundraising page at Virgin Giving is expected to remain open until the end of May and can be accessed at http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team/MPSTrafficLEtJOG
Each team member contributed both financially and personally by using their yearly allocation of annual leave to complete the cycle ride.
